Ebay Baby
A German couple had been arrested by the police after the mother put up her baby for auction on eBay. The minimum bid was 1 Euro. The ad was online for 2 hours, until eBay users reported it to the police.
The title of the post was, “Baby - Pick up in Person Only”. The ad read: “Offering my nearly new baby for sale, as it has gotten too loud. It is a male baby, nearly 70cm long and can be used either in a baby carrier or a stroller."
The mother claimed that it was just a "joke". Unfortunately for them, the police failed to see the funny side and are now looking into whether the couple could be guilty of child trafficking.
This did not happen on in Germany. Canadian police also arrested a Vancouver couple for selling their seven days old baby in Craigslist, a classified ad website. The parents asked for CA$10,000. The ad read: “A new baby girl, seven days old, health and very cute. Can’t afford and unexpected. Looking for a good home”.
A 'joke'?! 'Can't afford and unexpected'?! WTF?!
A lot of us can't really afford to have kids. Truthfully, kids are synonymous with expenses. But they are also synonymous with joy, love and self-giving. Yes, it's expensive to raise kids nowadays, but we try our best. And in my personal experience, we do what we can do and best the most out of it.
All of us want to hear a joke. Joking is good. But that kind of joke is not funny at all. Go make the patients in the psychiatric ward laugh. Maybe they will. And where you're at it, it would be better if you just stay there because if the baby goes back to you, who know what's your next starting bid will be.
