Gabster
Gabster
“You smell like a thousand blooming flowers in sunshine.”No, it’s not a pick-up line from somebody. It came from my five-year-old son, Gabby. He told me that last night (in a very sweet voice so I know it didn’t mean I was ‘amoy-araw’ ) when I was putting him to sleep. My first reaction was an “Awww…so sweet!”, but the PMS-ing mom in me just said, “C’mon, Gabs, put a sock on it”.
I knew what he was up to. He wanted to play some more instead of going to sleep. He usually says things like that when he wants to get out of situations he doesn’t really care about. I think he figured it out that the best way to do that is make bola his tired, old mother.
Well, who can blame him? Most of the times, I fall for it (me = sucker!) ;-).
Just last week, I heard him tiptoeing to the living room where I was watching a movie. I already tucked him in for the night. When I asked him what he was doing out, he said straight away (as if rehearsed), “There’s one thing I have to tell you”.
“And what is that?”
“I have to tell you that I love you very much”.
That earned him five minutes of more cuddling… :D
But it was getting late so I had to put my foot down and send him back to the room. A minute after, he crept back out again.
“What is it this time, Gabs?”
“Well….. (I knew he was trying to find an excuse) I forgot to tell you that you are getting more beautiful each day”.
That does it! I’m not falling for that anymore (Wahoo! Yes! Somebody said I’m beautiful! Hahaha!)
“Goodnight, Gabby, go back to the room and sleep… “
Hey, I have to implement the rules, ‘ayt? It’s was late, way past his bedtime (sure…).
When they say kids say the darnest things- you can say that again!
One time, gabby just walked up to me and said in a serious voice, “Mommy, I can’t take a chance on a chick like you”.
What the…?! Where did that come from?! (I later found out it was from a song he heard from a movie.)
But he doesn’t always say things that are ‘pro-mommy’. One time when I was in the kitchen, his Grandma asked, “What is that smell?” Gabby, who was playing with his blocks, didn’t miss a beat and answered in a somewhat blasé voice, “Oh, that’s just Mommy’s cooking…” Oh, well, so much for my hard labor in the kitchen….
With a kid like Gabby, one has to be always ready to hear quips that are sometimes out of this world (literally, sometimes). Aside from telling me about this imaginary town, in the same breath he’d say, “Mommy, autumn is the season of togetherness”. I’d go like, huh?! (This line, he heard from Mikee of “Recess”)
I guess that’s what Gabby is there for - to flatter me, to surprise me, to make me smile with his antics, to give me a daily dose of his ‘gift of gab’.
